Fox has officially changed the name of its upcoming sci-fi/comedy film Neighborhood Watch to The Watch.
This was in response to the ongoing Trayvon Martin case from Florida, in which a self-declared ‘neighborhood watch captain’ shot an unarmed child (Martin) to death. Fox pulled the original posters, which featured a ‘neighborhood watch’ sign with bullet holes in it, back in March. Today, they released a new red band trailer with the updated name, sidestepping the issue all together.
The film, which stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd, The Mighty Boosh), is about four suburban men who believe that the Earth has been invaded by aliens posing as humans, and take it upon themselves to stage an uprising. It is set for release July 27th, 2012.
