The CW network is taking another stab at modernizing Beauty and the Beast, this time with the help of Smallville‘s Kristin Kreuk.
By CW standards, a small scar on someone’s cheek qualifies him or her as a ‘beast.’
The classic story was previously adapted to television in 1987. That series, also called Beauty and the Beast, starred Linda Hamilton and Ron Pearlman and ran three seasons. Last year, a teen-centric movie called Beastly also drew from the original.
Fairy tales were a hot topic for TV last year, with both Grimm on NBC and Once Upon A Time on ABC garnering enough viewers to get second seasons. Much like their teen vampire series, The Vampire Diaries, the CW is late to the race again.
