Sentai Filmworks Gets Penguindrum

Sentai Filmworks announced three new titles during its panel at Animaine 2012 on Saturday.

First up was the 2011 magical girl TV series Mawaru Penguindrum, from director Kunihiko Ikuhara (Revolutionary Girl Utena).  The first 12 of 24 episodes will be released on DVD and Blu Ray in December 2012.

Next up was the 1993 film Ninja Scroll.  This hyper violent movie was originally licensed by Manga Entertainment, and was arguably one of the primary sparks of the anime boom of the ’90s, as it was repeated endlessly on various pay-cable outlets at the time.  This, too, will get a Blu Ray and DVD release in December.

Lastly, Sentai announced Letter Bee, a fairly undistinguished series from 2009 about a boy who delivers letters in a fantasy-world setting.  This one will be released in December on subtitled-only on DVD
