20th Century Fox describes the film on its facebook page: ‘Based on the celebrated comic book arc, THE WOLVERINE finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.’
The ‘celebrated comic book arc’ they speak of is a four issue mini-series from 1982 written by Chris Claremont and drawn by Frank Miller.
This is the second attempt to give the character a starring role, after 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The gruff, Canadian anti-hero was the breakout star of the X-Men film trilogy, but the relative box office failure of his solo outings led production company Fox to scrap future single character film plans (including an X-Men Origins: Megneto) in favor of a reboot, X-Men: First Class.
Jackman had a brief, but memorable cameo in First Class.
