Dracula Finds His Mina

Picture 1NBC has cast the female lead for its upcoming ten episode Dracula miniseries.

Jessica De Gouw (who played the Huntress in Arrow) will play Mina Murray, fiance of Jonathan Harker (the protagonist of the original novel) and reincarnation of Dracula’s dead wife (the same conceit was used in Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula).  In the series, Dracula (Jonathan Rhys Meyers of The Tudors), posing as an American named Allen Grayson, travels to Victorian era London to seek revenge on those who harmed him centuries ago.

There are currently three Dracula-related period-set series in development at three different networks.  The second is Starz’ Vlad Dracula, a fictionalized look at Dracula’s historical inspiration, Vlad the Impaler that casts him as an actual vampire; and the third is Showtime’s Penny Dreadful, a pulpy, Victorian England-set series about classic monsters including Dracula and Frankenstein.
