‘Thunderbirds Are Go!’ -ing Back to TV

Picture 1British broadcaster ITV is teaming up with New Zealand’s Pukeko Pictures and Weta Workshop to produce a new TV series based on Gerry Anderson’s (UFO) classic sci-fi kids show, Thunderbirds.

Thunderbirds Are Go!, as the new series is called, will consist of 26 half-hour episodes, which ITV plans to air sometime in 2015.  Like the original, it will star the five Terry brothers, who pilot ridiculous vehicles as they mount impossible rescue missions across the globe.

The remake will eschew the marionette cast of the old series (a technique that Gerry Anderson colorfully referred to as ‘Supermarionation’), in favor of CGI characters, though the sets will still be live-action models as an homage to Anderson, who died this past December.
