Straczynski Reveals The Secret Reason Why Michael O’Hare Left ‘Babylon 5’

Screen Shot 2013-05-29 at 5.09.42 AMDuring a series reunion panel at last weekend’s Phoenix Comicon, Babylon 5 creator J Michael Straczynski revealed for the first time the true reason behind Michael O’Hare’s departure from the show after its first season.

Rather than the long-assume contract dispute or network meddling; O’Hare left the show because he was suffering from a debilitating mental illness that made it impossible to carry on.

O’Hare, who passed away in 2012, played Jeffrey Sinclair, the captain of Babylon 5, and the lynchpin of the series’ five year story-arc.
