A Name and a Villain for Avengers 2

Avengers-Age-Of-UltronToday’s big Comic Con news came courtesy of Joss Whedon (The Avengers), who made a surprise appearance at the end of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy panel.

He announced that the sequel to the Avengers will be titled ‘Age of Ultron,’ a name also used by a recent Brian Michael Bendis penned storyline.

Ultron is an evil, sentient robot invented by Hank Pym, better known as Ant Man (who will be starring in his own movie the year after ‘Age of Ultron’).

The title tells us a few things about the upcoming sequel.  First, that Thanos, who we saw at the end of The Avengers, is not, as we might have presumed, the villain.  Since Marvel isn’t one to waste foreshadowing, that means he’ll be popping up somewhere else (I’m guessing Guardians of the Galaxy).

Second, Hank Pym will make his debut before his solo outing.  Whether or not this will be a pre-Ant Man phase in his life, or if ‘Age of Ultron’ will include his origin story remains to be seen.
