Wonder Woman is going to make her big screen debut in the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman. Israeli actress Gal Gadot (Fast Five, Fast and Furious 6) has already been cast in the role.
Director Zack Snyder said of the choice, ‘Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.’
Wonder Woman is an important character, so why is she being shoehorned into a film that already has to introduce a new Batman? I know WB is desperate to copy Marvel’s movie success, but a shared universe has to be built organically. How can Wonder Woman have a proper origin story and any sort of character arch in the short time that will be allotted to her?
And then there’s the fact that she’s a very different type of character. Where Batman and Superman are science-based, Wonder Woman is magical. Fitting magic and science into the same world can be very awkward, without sufficient explanation.
